One Season, Two Directions

As an alumnus and longtime fan, I couldn’t be prouder of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s performance last night in the semifinal. But ESPN’s Ivan Maisel manages to make it sting just a little, pointing out that, “No team has won more games at AT&T Stadium this season than Alabama. The Tide have two victories; the Dallas Cowboys have one.” I’ve been rooting for the Cowboys four decades now and had high hopes coming off a 12-4 season that ended one idiotic rule away from the NFC championship game.

As a long-time Tennessee Vol, I watched the SEC Championship game with a sad heart. My vols had been ahead of both ‘Bama and Florida in the 4th quarter and found a way to lose both games. Then I watched Oklahoma who we’d also beaten for 3 quarters play in the Championship Series. Darn! Just hoping my boys can put Northwestern away and keep them there later today.

So as 99.9% of sports fans do, I say – ‘next year’ – and reflect that sports sure stirs some great emotions and colorizes a lot of life.

    But the Cowboys? Bah!

Heh, as a Redskins fan, your tears are delicious.
Meanwhile, contrary to all reasonable expectations , The Redskins are in the playoffs. Color me gobsmacked. Of course, they’ll end up there with a mediocre record-9-7 if they beat the Cowboys Sunday. I expect their postseason to be brief-but then, on any given Sunday…
